Heavy equipment

Only three and a half weeks until my photographic trip to India, and I'm beginning to think about what equipment to take. But how to stay within the hand-luggage weight limits on the plane? Will I have to leave behind a lens I really wanted to take? I was weighing everything today so that I can work out what combination of bodies and lenses will keep within the rather mean restrictions imposed by the airline.
