Our happy place

For anyone who hasn’t ever been in a cancer hospital, you might assume it would be a sad and gloomy place. Not generally so in our experience.

Today was a chemo day for Leejohnaire up at MD Anderson in The Woodlands. In search of a blip, I was trying out an “interesting” shot which required me to stand in the corridor while taking a picture from up high into L’s room. Needless to say, patients and nurses passed by a few times and, every time I felt obliged to explain that I was experimenting with the camera. They all smiled and I like to think it wasn't always just in a humouring kind of way. I think the nurses will start to expect this of us soon though!

At one point, a nurse came by and saw I was taking L’s photo. She asked, “What’s going on? Is this his last chemo?” No matter what the answer was, I suspect she’d have done the same thing, as I had just said, "no", when she leapt, seemingly in a single bound, into L’s room and started posing around for the camera! It was just so funny that we immediately realized that my “interesting” shot would just have to wait for another time.
