Family Dog

Our friends Kerry & Steve moved down to the borders a few months ago and today was our first visit to their new house.

I went prepared to be thoroughly envious of the space and the garden and the lovely new life they've carved for themselves and I have to admit to a bit of a twinge of envy, but mostly I am just totally thrilled that they have got a beautiful new home. They deserve it and have worked hard for it. It's one of those houses that just feels perfect - I'd never set foot in it before, but it felt like their home and it felt right that we were all there together round their table.

Their boys Sam (red & blue jumper) and Charlie (blue & yellow jumper) seem so content with their new life. I love how kids adapt. Before this new house they lived in a tiny wee 2nd floor flat in the middle of Leith and now they're in a tiny wee village with their own garden and a new school and nursery - they wouldn't change their new life for the world (and I know this because I pretended we were moving in and they were moving back to our flat and they looked gutted!)

We went for a long walk along the river to check out the horses and then got back and had some tasty lasagne and a good bit of gossiping. The boys had a good kick at hurling around the room, chasing each other and waving light sabres around, interrupted briefly by a little rest on the bottom step to eat their kinder eggs.

A perfect day for all of us.
