River Reserve

This morning the sun rose and shone brilliantly. There was a very heavy shower of rain overnight and the world was freshly washed.
Ever since we re-homed Gypsy last weekend I have avoided taking Fergus for early morning walks in our usual area. I do not want them becoming upset at an accidental meeting. So I have been walking from home and heading to the Taylor River reserve via Monro Street. The sweeping grassed areas have been mown in the last few days and the area looks very neat and tidy compared with the wilder tracks further upstream. Once we reach the Reserve I am able to let Fergus off his lead in order to rush around and play with other friendly pooches he meets up with. There are concreted paths rather than a rough track in this part of the river reserve….it is all very civilised.
There is fresh snow on the ranges to the south. The snow-covered mountain in the distance is “Black Birch” in the Awatere Valley. It is said by boaties in the Marlborough Sounds that if one can see clouds hovering over Black Birch then it is time to head for port as there is a southerly change on the way.
