Team spirit

This is the Captain of the Voyager. He is an exceptionally popular leader - and not, ladies, for the most obvious reason.

Captain Tomasz Kaminski, from Poland. He clearly looks young - and therefore jokes about his plastic surgeon. He was in charge when I sailed with them to Iceland in May. It was one of his first voyages as Captain as he'd just been promoted from Staff Captain. Many of the regular passengers and long-serving crew have watched his rise through the ranks with delight.

He is charming. He runs a very well disciplined ship. He keeps passengers well informed and reassured. He's an excellent speaker and led the presentation about piracy measures himself.

He's also very aware of staff morale and team spirit.

The photo was taken as he took photos of the first ever Voyager Olympics. A brilliant idea. Different departments - Galley. Housekeeping. Restaurant. Office. Engineers - all competed in fun events.

Fun - yes. But they took it fabulously seriously. Egg throwing. Transferring individual Maltesers with a straw. Drinking a bottle of non-alcoholic beer, spinning round and lapping the ship in a relay.

All wonderful fun. Loved and cheered on by the passengers. And ideal for strengthening the already happy departmental teams.

The Captain was there from start to finish, smiling and taking photos. He clearly values his crew. And that's why they all love him.
