Quiet again
This is Brockham, today a quiet village near the centre of Surrey. Not so last Saturday when the village hosted its annual bonfire night. It had been a very wet night, so today the evidence of thousands of trampling feet was clear, with very muddy verges. The numbers are impressive. More than 10,000 people attended, and the display lasted for a full twelve minutes. The massive Guy was dressed in Jacobean costume and was paraded round the village before being placed on the huge bonfire. The proceeds from parking charges for 700 cars pay for next year's fireworks and collecting tins collect large sums for local good causes.
We seldom go to this local event, and I gleaned all this information from the local paper. I was in the village today for yet another lunch out. What a week!
