My Life With Luna

Hawthorn Shieldbug

I started off trying to capture the raindrops on the twigs of the Copper Beech hedge and whilst I was looking for more drops I noticed this little Hawthorn Shieldbug on one of the leaves.
It is one of the most common and distinctive of the Shieldbug group. It lives on the leaves and fruit of shrubs and trees but more especially on Hawthorn. It is widespread over most of Europe excluding the far north and south, but is common in southern Britain. This one was on the Copper Beech but I do have Hawthorn in the garden also.
