In the Medina of Marrakesh
The old city (Medina) of Marrakesh is amazing and stunning, a whole world within walls. Much bigger than what I expected, the city walls are nearly 20 km long. Inside a labyrinth of little lanes, almost impossible to orientate for tourists.
Historically the Medina area was divided into areas for special crafts and even today it is an almost never ending sequence of goods, including leather, carpets, metalwork, pottery, food and spices. We hired a guide to have a walk besides the usual tracks we would have taken as tourists and to see things we would never find on our own, like a hidden bakery also used by locals not having an oven on their own.
