Dr John the Barbican
Great afternoon watching England play South Africa at Twickenham. They lost and are still work in progress particularly in the backs. But as SR pointed out remember in 2002 when we beat all of the big three in November and thought we peaked too early for the World Cup. Hopefully england are going to peak in September 2015...
Things got even better in the evening when we went to see Dr John at the Barbican. The announcer told us that Louis Armstrong came to Dr John in a dream and told him to play his music but in his own style. So that's what the doctor did. Big band with Dr John on piano, drums, bass, guitar and Hammond organ plus a horn section of trombone, three sax, two trumpets, trombone and a guest trumpet player and female singer.
This was Louis Armstrong as you have never heard before. Fantastic musicianship , fantastic feel to a the songs the set flew past and before we knew it it was encore and standing ovation time. The Dr walks with two sticks now, and talks like he is a bit stoned but once he is sat at the piano he can play and sing like no one else. A unique talent. So pleased we got to see him.
