Fred & Andy

On the road to Nagarkot

We are up early this morning and on the road after breakfast by 7.30am. Its a little chilly first thing but soon warms up. We have a longer trek today but not so hilly. The first 3-4 hours are through jungle where apparently there are tigers although we don't see any sign of them. We do see lots of evidence of wild boars digging on the path but, again, don't see any. The trek is what they call "Nepali flat" and what we would call undulating but not too hard going.

We stop for a lunch of Dal Bhat at a lovely roadside cafe. The gentleman cooking is an elderly Nepali who used to serve in the Indian Army for many years apparently. He makes lovely dal with fresh vegetable and spinach curry ... yum.

Then onwards with the trek through stunning scenery including this mustard seed field, we arrive at our destination of Nagarkot at about 4pm again. The last part of the trek was pretty hardcore uphill but the rest has been ok. Tired legs though as lots of hours of walking.

Andy didn't sleep so well last night so has a nap and then we meet the guys for dinner. The place we are staying is perched right on top of a big hill and apparently there are stunning himalayan views and sunrises. Sunrise is 6.15am the next morning so, as we are all tired, we say an early goodnight and arrange to have breakfast at 7am the next day. We set our alarm for 6am in the hope of a clear morning view of the mountains. Today we could just see snow capped mountains in the distance as we walked but its been a bit hazy again.
