No. 171: Twite

After yesterday's washout, we had a glorious day today with some wonderful light. A tip-off from a very helpful man at the Visitor Centre at Titchwell Marsh took us to an area we would probably have visited anyway, as it is a splendid walk, but finding this special little bird was a big bonus. It is a red status bird, so it was especially thrilling to see a flock of over 50 today. Like many of our upland birds, they overwinter on the coastal areas, and this flock were feeding on the seeds of plants on the salt marshes.
as we finished our walk, a spectacular flock of what must have been a thousand Pink Footed Geese flew over like a huge net across the sky. We were chatting to a local man as they passed over, and he said that he didn't think he'd ever seen such a huge flock.
