A Blinding Nor' Wester
Well, today as the day progressed, the wind developed into the notorious Nor'Wester and trees were bending and writhing ,poplar flowers pelting into every nook and cranny they could find; up on the station , despite carefully positioned and heavy specialist polythene cover on the new 100 metre long silage stacks, the wind just winkled it's destructive way under the cover in a few small places and before you can say "Banshee",the covers began to lift and tear a little whilst the men and the farmer's amazing wife worked like the possessed, securing edges, gathering yet more old car tyres by the hundred and weighing down the heaving cover…in itself $3000 worth. All this whilst the raging wind was picking up the fine soil and creating a fierce dust cloud a couple of kilometres long and sweeping it at great speed across the land and enveloping the stack , tractors and workers. They ultimately won and came in looking like chimney sweeps' apprentices and utterly spent.
Then the blessed rain came and ultimately the wind gave up its rage, so the dust will be laid , the pasture nourished and stockfood saved…till next time.
