How do they know it's Christmas coming?

I've broken all the rules with this Poinsettia, it's on a window sill in the bathroom. It's not really in strong light, and I suppose the bathroom temperature is a little warmer than the rest of the house, but I have none of the pruning or sticking it in a dark place to make it go red again .. it seems keen though!
