On The Road
I scurried across town to Spokes' place of work this afternoon to catch an intimate show by Finnish troubadour and banjo picker extraordinaire Slack Bird who's currently on a brief tour of western Europe (you can catch him in Dublin tomorrow if you hurry!).
He performed a great selection of his own songs in both English and Finnish (not always at the same time!) and threw in some Woody Guthrie for good measure. What's not to love?!
Afterwards, a local unhoused person (thanks to Kendall for the language) who'd come into the shop asked to borrow a Jack Kerouac book to read for a few minutes as he couldn't afford to buy it. When he'd read for a while he returned the book to Spokes and presented Slack Bird with a harmonica that he had with him, explaining that he'd been given the gift of the opportunity to sit and read and he wanted to give a gift in return. How's that for some seriously good karma?
