Over the Horizon

La ceja de la selva

I can't begin to recount how wild and long the journey was today, but Seth and I drove the trucks through hell and back again. Heading out from the jungle town of Macas through the controversial new road through the wilderness of Sangay National Park to the highland town of Gauamote, and all the way back to Cuenca. Up and over the great eyebrow of the jungle, "la ceja de la selva".

There were giant potholes, busted out bridges, sketchy tunnels basted through the mountain side, sinuous rivers snaking down to the jungle, big blue morhpo butterflies, huge eagles, hitchhiking campesinos, fogged over high mountain passes, and the dull aching loopy adrenaline rush from driving 14 hours from the Amazon to the Andes and back home with a truck load of wild students.

Peligro. Danger, danger!!!

...but nothing we couldn't handle. Needless to say, it was an epic trip. I can't wait for more!
