anybody? no?
Apart from the bloke a row or two in front and a bit to our right who appeared to be speaking during the first hour or so, this evening's auditoriumful of people watching Alice in Wonderland were mostly quiet when they should have been quiet, except for a tendency to laugh as soon as the mostly-CG Matt Lucas-faced Tweedles Dum and Dee appeared on screen, whether or not the characters had yet said or done anything warranting laughter and despite the slack and rushed-looking character modelling. The only noticeably good bits were the evaporation effects on the Cheshire cat, the caterpillar and the caterpillar's smoke and Bonham-Carter's snappy-voiced bits. The Jabberwocky looked like it was trying to borrow from too many things at once (including the Cloverfield beastie), Depp just re-uses character traits from previous films, Crispin Glover isn't bad but the physics on his body (and most of the rest of the characters) is very sloppy and there's generally little else worthy of note. The 3D is rarely subtle and really doesn't add anything. The music is irritating and constantly chugging away in the background almost all the time. Probably best avoided until it's out on DVD to save your money.
