San Francisco
Dungeness crab, sourdough and clam chowder. Relaxed laconic humour and that curious blend of shiny and new and reliable (phones, tablets, cars) with worn and old and unpredictable (cable cars, trams, earthquakes) The open topped bus took us through the most expensive housing in USA (living here now costs more than in Manhatten), on through the Tenderloin district with its hundreds of homeless inhabitants and over the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked back to the city but would have preferred to be in the helicopter that we saw giving joy rides under the bridge. This is one huge playground for those that have and a lot seem to. Dinner was at a classy down town restaurant (Kuletos) with a classy girl from Palo Alto who has managed to shake off most of her Dundee accent and married a local girl. It was great to spend the evening with Kathryn & Debs and we are looking forward to catching up again in December or January.
