Spoor of the Bookworm

By Bookworm1962

I've been reading the recent biography of Karl Marx by Jonathan Sperber over the last couple of days and although I seem to be developing Zelig Syndrome it's a consequence I'm willing to face, after all if I went in for hero worship he'd be high on the list. I can recommend the Sperber book, it avoids the pitfalls of talking about Marx in terms of twentieth/twenty first century perceptions and places him in the context of the nineteenth century, it's probably the most in depth biography of him available and his breakdown of Marx' critique of Hagel, explanation of the dialectic etc is very accessible. Riveting stuff.

Other highlights of today have come from the Beeb's Science Fiction season: The Quatermass Experiment , Quatermass 2 and The Thing From Another World....sheer joy!
