New 3rd ager

Glad we packed the coats !

It's not hard to guess which nationality would be on the beach in the rain !
We got up to a chilly overcast day so went to the koala Conservation Centre, the entry to which was included in the ticket that E&M and M&A kindly gave us for our birthdays for the penguin parade. We managed to spot 10 koalas all quite high in the trees. I didn't realise that they slept for 20 hours a day to conserve their energy and warmth and therefore I took some convincing that it wasn't just a load of teddies up in the trees!
A big bonus was the number of wallabies there were just around the perimeter, I referred to them as kangaroos, but was told that the island has no kangaroos on it. (A wallaby is any animal belonging to the family Macropodidae that is smaller than a kangaroo and has not been designated otherwise.)

We are just about to set off to find some track that takes us to an area where many of the native animals can be seen grazing before heading to the penguin parade at dusk. We aren't permitted to take cameras to it but will tell you all about it tomorrow.
