Tunica monroeae
A lovely bright start to the day, sadly it didn't last and now the clouds have gathered. Wandering through the dunes I came across this little beauty strutting its stuff in the morning sun. With nothing much else to think about, I began to wonder what name I should give it, if perchance it turned out to be a species new to science. Bearing in mind that the best scientific names are in some way descriptive, I decided on Tunica monroeae, to be commonly known as the seven year itch mushroom.
If you are wondering why, then this might help explain my reasoning.

This wouldn't be the first species to be named after Ms Monroe. The palaeontologist Richard Fortey named a fossil trilobyte Norasaphus monroeae because of the hour glass shape of its glabella, part of its head segment.
