Bath
I'm a day late posting this, but yesterday I had a visit to Bath, which was as beautiful as ever in the sunshine (where did that come from?)
The Christmas Market is being held in the streets in Bath at the moment, so a very festive feel to the city, with carol singers, mulled wine etc. I could have (or should have, spent all day shopping from the lovely shops and stalls, but instead went for an adventure, climbed up the hilly streets and ended up a couple of miles or more from the city centre, looking down on it!
I'd seen a map/tourist guide when I was near the Royal Crescent, showing a tower that had fantastic views across the city, so I thought 'yes please!' so headed off towards Beckford's Tower. It was a bit of a walk up there, I should have looked the website up on my mobile beforehand as it was actually closed for the Winter! It didn't matter though, as there was a graveyard next to it with views for miles, so I stood there for a little while, waiting for the sun to come out of the low cloud. It was quite misty though down in the valley, but I'd imagine the views are splendid on a clear day, especially from the top of the tower. I'd have liked to have stayed for longer, but felt slightly nervous being there on my own, thinking there was someone behind me. I had visions of someone locking the gate not knowing I was there and me being locked in there!
I walked back down to the city after, had medicinal apple spongecake and coffee overlooking the river, a look around the stalls and then caught the almost empty coach back to a freezing London!
