In this photo there is the physical evidence of two parasites.

The cockle died as the result of an creature that attached itself to the cockles hinge, drilled through the shell and squirted digestive acid into the live cockle. After waiting a couple of days it sooked out a nice liquid lunch.

The smaller oyster shell (yes there are oysters in the Forth) has been attacked by a small burrowing mite that drills it's way through calcium the way wood worm burrow through wood.

I think the muscle was eaten by a gull, but the limpet probably died a natural death.
