St Moritz, nightime, ski, street race.
As far as I am aware this is a unique event in the ski race calandar, and great though highly competitive fun was had by one and all. The race consists of teams of four people, male, female or mixed teams. All competitors have to race downhill and race up hill on cross-country skis. Some teams wore traditional costumes and others in full-on race gear, indeed a team wearing traditional dress of tweed suits, plus fours and carrying leather packs actually got to the final but lost to a team of ski instructors. There was no snow this year so huge amounts had to be trucked in by lorry and laid out over the course, an impressive feat of logistical organisation. In the background on stage were live bands and the whole party atmosphere was enhanced by stalls from the local hotels selling food and drink. We finished a great evening in Pavarotti's wine bar sampling truffle shavings in our wine.
