Migrant School

Today I went with 5 other Keystone Teachers and some grade 8 and 9 pupils to a Migrant workers school. Children of workers, usually labourers, who come from outside of Beijing can’t legally go to government schools in Beijing. These people can’t afford independent school so these illegal unregistered schools have appeared. They have little or no government funding so the pupils have to pay a relatively small fee to cover the cost of running the school. This school charges 200 pounds a year.

We went to see how we could help. My initial idea was to create a mural but they already have a huge, but damaged mural. I am now thinking of a restoration project or perhaps to help paint inside the classrooms.

This photo is of a Keystone teacher teaching a demonstration lesson to Keystone pupils in one of the classrooms.

Watch this space.
