Moo to you too
Things looked up a bit today. First, got up later - good thing to do on a Saturday. Second, handyman came and between them, he and HH sorted out the water problem in the bathroom (roots from plants on an upstairs verandah clogging everything up). Third, I replanted, tidied and somewhat reduced the number of plants in our very small patio/yard/whatever. And fourth, handyman unearthed the Christmas tree and decorations (a big artificial-but-nice one we brought from an American friend years ago) from the attic and we got it up and partially decorated.
After all that, we finally set off for the hills, with only one false start (forgot the modem/dongle) and had a quiet ride up. Very heavy rain forced us to stop at the cheese place for yet another sausage sandwich and some Maasdam, but that was long enough for the rain to stop and the rest of the journey was without incident.
The frustrating thing about the drive was being unable to stop for shots of a superb sunset over the water. The bay is horrifically polluted and stinks at low tide, but water and reflected lights are always magical. Then I got excited about the full moon and leapt about with the tripod after we arrived home - even driving back down the road a ways to get shots through a tree draped with ghostly lichen. However, the shots were all rubbish, so I'm left with the wooden carving on the wall outside the cheese place.
