Still Here!

By Yorkhull

Out of the mist they appeared......

We finished our fourth and penultimate sessions and came back together on the walkway leading to the mall. We saw the crowds still thronging the shops as students descended through the tunnels intent on their homeward journey. We walked down to the MTR, the HK underground and waited for our train. It was quiet but still the persistent steady underground trains made their way.

There was rain in the air when we alighted from the trains but we did not mind. Our focus was on a final beer to wash away the day, to forget the questions the students had posed, we simply wanted to unwind, remember days when we were young at York University in the early 1970s and let the world drift by.

We rose up the magnificent escalators intent on the bar. We waved aside greetings, nothing was going to get in the way. A mist descended as we approached our favourite seats. Out of the gloom and into focus came the object of our desire. Two gleaming pints of Tsing Tau. We had made it through the day, just two sessions left. We smiled, we chatted, we relaxed. Another day another Hong Kong dollar!
