Those Alps
Day 11 of Roadtrip: Austria to the NürburgRing
A late start to today was OK - the others had set off early since we had a long way to travel and we had the fast cars... We can catch up.
The highways route was all that was needed, also. We'd spent plenty of time on mountain passes, and frankly with views like this on the way out of Austria, who cares?
Sadly the roads didn't quite provide the fun we'd hoped for. A lot of rain, roadworks and traffic helped to make it feel like home, but the occasional gap made high speed inevitable. All I can say is that above 220kph my car's windows decide they don't like staying on the roof, and let in wonderful gusts to help buffet you around. Arriving at traffic quickly helped slow it down.
A stop in Stuttgart for lunch was well worth the detour - a city-centre Schnitzel place that serves big and charges little. Only a quick stop, though.
Catching up with the others wasn't difficult; and happened very soon after entering Germany. We left them behind anyway to pop to Stuttgart and met up again at the campsite. Despite our stop we'd still beaten them by a fair way.
The evening was spent doing the usual; a kebab in Adenau and plenty of beer. Bed at 1:30am feels like an early night.
