Happy Birthday Crusty

This dog is the epitome of all those jokes about a dog with bits missing called Lucky. His mother tried to kill him by giving birth 1 week early, outside in the cold, then leaving him to have her tea and go for a walk - luckily, I found him. He then developed Lymphadinitus - in simple terms inflammation of the lymph nodes - in real terms a horrific inflammation of just about everything resulting in oozing pus, complete hair loss, deep scarring and 6 months on steroids.
Having bought himself a ticket to become a permanent member of the household, he relaxed for a couple of years before developing the "snot problem" (you may want to stop reading now if you are eating). Any form of excitement, it doesn't take much, results in sneezing attacks and projectile snot, we have tried every combination of therapy. Our Vet's CPD hours consist solely of my making her read the latest research, every now and then we try the latest medication.
We got used to the snot, so he had to "up the ante" - he started to put on weight, his hair fell out, he hugged the fire, his right eye became scarred by lipid deposits - yay - hypothyroidism. Fortunately for him, it's well controlled with medication, he now looks normal, apart from the bald patches around his eyes and chin, the scarring, the wonky eye and the snot trails.
I would like to think that there is a limit to what else can go wrong.......he may well have another five or six years of medical mischief, at least the Vet will be able to retire to a beachfront apartment in the Cayman Islands.
In case you're wondering why Crusty, the Vet called him that as a joke when he was little - it kind of stuck.....a bit like the snot.
