Obstacles
Despite one's very
best efforts, one encounters
roadblocks to progress

Wednesday was not a very good day on so many levels. I really could have used a sharp spear on several occasions.
Traffic patterns here in the foothills are often overloaded when all the snowbirds have returned. The frontage road along the highway is being revamped. Work has been underway for at least a couple of months now. This is a route that many, like us rely, on each day. Traffic is held up in all directions. There's even been a sherriff or two placed at strategic intersections to direct traffic. Sometimes a sherriff's vehicle is parked with its lights flashing. The snarl continues.
On the bright side, we're seeing gasoline prices like we haven't seen in a very long time. Our local grocery store gives us a further discount when we shop there. We hear that the price of a barrel of oil is going down. Can anyone really explain how gas prices work? At home, it is also a complete mystery.
A landscaping contractor was supposed to arrive today to work some magic in the yard. He picked up a deposit cheque for $600 from me on Friday. He was supposed to come back that afternoon to spray the Bermuda grass that's taking over the back yard. He didn't and didn't call either. Wednesday we were expecting him to start work on the yard per the contract. When he didn't show up or call by 1 PM we left for town. Upon our return we found a telephone message to say he'd be here Thursday. I called back to confirm his call. He said he'd be here 'late morning' on Thursday. We'll see. I'm getting discouraged.
