Flooded again
This is the River Alne, which is normally a very pretty little river. The word "Alne" comes from the Celtic word Alwine meaning bright or clear. It's certainly neither bright nor clear today. It is very flooded with all the rain we had a day or two ago, and much wider and faster than it normally is. We can see the river from our bedroom as it runs behind our house, and when we drew the curtains this morning we could see immediately that it had burst its banks during the night.
Evidently the road just up from here was totally flooded this morning, and what with lorries trying to turn around in farm gates, and cars getting stuck behind the lorries etc., evidently is was chaos for a while.
I've hardly been out at all today except to deliver Christmas cards. Hoorah! I've almost completed writing them. Only a few to go.
This evening there is the village Christmas Supper, and Nikonabike and I have two duties: he is on potato cooking (there are about 80 to 90 people attending I think) and I'm on raffle ticket sales. Neither of these are too onerous. Unlike the tasks that some Blippers have - I've heard a rumour that "some Blippers" may be part of this evening's entertainment. We shall have to wait and see.....................
