Just an ordinary day....
I felt much better today and although I went to bed feeling very down, I woke feeling almost human. I might even manage to visit the office next week! I think I might as well forget about that for now though.
It's weird how work is such a comfort when I'm here in Brum. I can immerse myself in problems or testing and the days become a comfortable cycle of getting up, work, dinner, sleep, getting up, work, dinner, sleep...etc. If I can raise a laugh during the course of the day, so much the better. Without that routine, I am adrift and aimless.
This morning, I was alarmed to see messages about no internet connection when I tried to log into work at 6:40am. I knew from my phone that my wifi was OK so I tried the other non council laptop. I could log onto Tesco or surf the net but but no joy when I tried the Solihull web portal. I emailed the help desk before 7 and had a sausage sandwich instead. It was only with a couple of thin leftover Richmond Irish sausages languishing at the bottom of the fridge but that was a pleasant second breakfast. I was daydreaming and thinking back to that time last week too.
Shauqat sent a text message a bit later to say the the data centre at work - where all the servers are kept - had overheated in the night with the cooling system breaking down. Loads of servers had stopped working which explained why no one could log in across the borough. It was nearly eleven by the time we could get into everything but I have to say, it was the quietest day I'd had in ages! I wasn't moaning anyway. Such is life.
Nothing much else to say really. As you can see from my picture, Eric is alive and well but a bit jittery. He sends his best wishes to you all and denies that he is actually a turkey.
