Rottnest Island

Jet lag seemed to set in last night and Chris and I were both wide awake at 3am!! We did finally manage to get some sleep and were up and out for 10am.

Today we took the ferry across to Rottnest Island from B-Shed (honestly this is a location!). The ferry was quick. I wasn’t too sure what to expect but I was surprised at how commercial the first part of the island was. We wanted (on the advice on IzzyP) to go to the West End part of the Island, however, we missed the shuttle bus and the next one wasn’t for an hour. We then realised that the bus wasn’t free! The queue for tickets was huge and we both decided against paying the $20 each considering the cost of the ferry tickets, I would have expected the shuttle to be free! So we made a different plan seeing as we only had four hours available to us! We decided to walk to the Lighthouse and back, a 10km round trip. It was very windy but we saw lots and it was good to give the legs a good stretch out.

This, for those of you not Australian, is a Quokka - more here- this little guy was very friendly and you can also see him here pushing his face into my lens.
We had a great few hours and a rewarding ice cream / milkshake at the end.

The ferry ride on the way home was amusing! Lots of rather sun drenched late teens who clearly had one too many!! There was a particularly nice ‘roll’ to the boat….a few green faces to be seen!! oh to be 18…….

Anyway, we are now back at our apartment and about to get ready and pop out for dinner. Tomorrow we wave goodbye to Perth and head to Adelaide. Perth is most certainly on the list to come back to!

Hopefully we will get sleep tonight!

Happy Saturday 
