Tartan steps

Today's the day ..................... to arrive at the Big House

I really didn't think we were going to make it this time.

We set off from Kendal this morning in a snow storm with the roads and pavements outside our house icy white. Anyone that knows me well (like my good friend Valerie) will know that this scenario is the stuff of my worst nightmares. We were heading north for our annual week's stay at the Big House - or as it's known up there - Tigh Mhor Trossachs. We've been going there for years and only once didn't manage it because of the weather, but I was convinced that this was going to be the second time.

As it happened, by the time we had climbed out of the valley of the Kent, things began to improve - and actually the journey was fine. There was a bit of snow about but the roads were clear.

So here we are, happily installed in our turret and ready to enjoy all that the castle has to offer. It's wall-to-wall tartan but all done in the best possible taste!

And the best bit about this year is that Rob and Anna - and Tim and Melanie are coming to join us for part of the week. So lots of real quality time in prospect ....................
