Christmas amaryllis

For the past four years I have supported the Huntington's Disease Society of America by buying Christmas amaryllis bulbs that they sell as a fund raiser. (Hubby was diagnosed with HD four years ago). I usually get a case of bulbs and give them away to family and friends.
It is such a wonderful symbol of hope (for a cure), as we watch this seemingly dead bulb sprout and bloom.
This year I was a bit concerned that the symbolism might fizzle because the bulbs were shipped from New York state during the big blizzard there last month. The bulbs came late, and had apparently sprouted and frozen in transit! So I cut off the dead stuff and gave them away with a caveat anyway.
But look! Mine is looking like it might be in full bloom by Christmas!
