Northern Exposure

Still

As we headed home this evening, after enjoying a very civilised meal out with the children, the light was wonderful. Bright, warm evening light that made everything glow.

I abandoned everyone else at home, grabbed the camera and dashed back down to the beach at the 3rd Barrier. I made it onto the beach, aimed the camera at my favourite boat... and a cloud slipped between me and the sun. I could have walked along the beach at the same speed as the cloud but there was no way I was going to catch the sunlight.

So instead I headed out onto the west side of Glimps Holm, which is one of the small islands the barriers link. You could describe it as a sheep field stuck on top of a big rock. But it is actually very pretty. Loads of wildflowers and birds. And the odd otter if your'e very lucky. I didn't see any tonight, it was so still and calm that they would have heard me just leaving the house.

I took my time and pottered along the cliff edge, never saw another soul and the only sounds to be heard were birdsong and the strangely pleasant noise of an oil tanker in the Flow. There was no hurry to get back so for a while I just sat and watched the light play over the water.

Imagine my delight when I got back to see this week's assignment... I give you my favourite Natural Deep Water harbour.. I'm quite pleased with this shot, but it really doesn't catch a magical evening. I wish you could all have shared the moment... but it would have been far too crowded.
