Yet another sad and tragic tale from new york unfolded this month as people learned more about the double suicide of artists theresa duncan and jeremy blake, both of whom lived just a block away from me. Apparently, duncan, 40, a successful writer, overdosed in her apartment after claiming to have been harassed for several months by scientologists. Her live-in boyfriend, blake, 35, also a successful artist with an upcoming show opening this week in fact, found duncan at home. Obviously in a distraught state, within a week blake also decided to take his own life. He ended up on rockaway beach in queens and swam into the ocean unclothed, leaving his belongings behind. About a week later, his body washed ashore in sea girt, new jersey. Few people including their close friends expected the pair to make such dire and irrevocable decisions, though some credibility is being given to the fact that they were actually being harassed, epecially after reading segments of duncan's blog www.theresalduncan.typepad.com. Still, nobody really knows what happened.
