An elderly hen

The brown hen in the front of the picture is Miss Cana, a 7 year old hen. She is an Auricana (breed). She layed lovely green eggs for several years but stopped as she got older a couple of years ago. She is a sweetheart. One of her sisters (same clutch) is also still alive. Behind her is California chicken, a little boy's easter chick all grown up that I rescued from a stew pot for him (mom said the chick had to go and I agreed to take her) which saved many tears. She came with the name California. She is 3 or 4 years old.

Today, I give thanks for the life I have been given, today, time with my family, my church family and sweet elderly hens.
