Gushet 3 - Minerva Street
The east end of Alexander Kirkland's St Vincent Crescent, where it joins Argyle Street, is marked by one of the nicest curved gushet buildings in the city. It was built in 1858, and originally was reflected by a similar Kirkland building on the other side of Minerva Street - roughly where the Office World car park is today, I guess.
St Vincent Crescent was meant to be the main street of an impressive garden suburb but, like several other such grand plans in the city, it was never realised in full, thanks to the encroaching industry. It's hard to imagine what like Glasgow was in terms of change during the 19th century really: someone who as born in 1810 and lived to 1900 would have seen the place grow tenfold in their lifetime!
There's another gushet just across the road in Argyle Street, where Kent Road merges. It's much less impressive and a bit worn, but has a very tight corner.
Now, with Thursday being Daddy Day, I'll have the wee man in tow so not sure whether I'll manage number 4. If I can manage a short trip to Shawlands, though, there's a very obvious target...
