Fixing Stuff #2
OK - day 2 of fixing stuff.
This time it was eldest's old laptop.
If you're keepoing up, you'll know she spilt juice all over it.
Well we got the new one on insurance, and managed to transfer all her files over. But I went on to power the old laptop up again...and it does "start" and you can hear sound of Windows starting.
So I connected it to my network....and I could "see" it remotely...it looked like just the screen was down. If I pointed a torch closely at the screen, I could just make out the picture.
So essentially it was just the backlight that was gone.
A bit of fiddling and I got it connected to an external monitor!
Again, google found me someone that sold replacement LCD modules. However, the backlight is a CCFL (see here for explanation)
These run off a high voltage...so I'm not sure if it is the high voltage board, or the LCD module thats knackered....
Maybe I should just touch it, and if I get a belt off the high voltage, then its definately the LCD module thats gone.
I did mention you don't need a degree for this stuff?
