Easter Egg Hunt
We went to our first community Easter Egg Hunt today. Wow. I figured that there would be a lot of people but I was completely shocked to see hundreds and hundreds of people/ kids/ strollers. Wow! It was actually a pretty impressive sight. An immediate feel of celebration and happiness. Hundreds of people gathered at a local high school so that their kids could partake in the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
We had heard about it at the preschool and decided that we would go. Rain or shine. Well we got a little bit of shine and also a little bit of rain. But it didn't matter. The kids had their boots on. Their Easter Egg baskets in hand. They looked as adorable as ever and when the Truck blew its horn, the masses started running. Every section of the field, actually two fields, was divided up by age category. We went to my son's category and as he ran and ran and ran trying to grab up some eggs, my daughter and I followed hand in hand. It was crazy! But as long as I had my daughter's hand in mine and my eyes on my son who was zig zagging around with all of the other kids, it was all okay.
The Easter Egg hunt probably lasted 60 seconds. Hundreds of eggs on the field + hundreds of kids on the field = a pretty short but very sweet event. My son got two eggs. He kept darting around trying to find the right egg (I kind of think he was being a little picky about the color) and since this was his first HUGE egg hunt, he was playing it safe. I wooped and hollered for his two eggs because at first I could tell that he was a little disappointed that he only came away with two. I had to remind him that will so many kids on the field, it was TOTALLY AWESOME that he came away with two. He thought about that for a second and then yes, yes it was awesome. He was thrilled to have found two eggs. My daughter scooped up the one pink egg that my son had decided against when the horn first blew. She was thrilled. Inside was a little candy and a coupon for a miniature golf course. We will definitely make a family day out of the coupons.
I took this photo as we were walking back to our car. Next to our car was this neat little man made marshy area. We heard frogs and the rain made pretty little circular patterns in the water. When we got into the car I got to thinking.........in 60 seconds, hundreds if not a thousand eggs were scooped up by a couple of hundred kids. What would happen if in just 60 seconds, every single person on the planet ran around at the same time picking up trash and litter. Wouldn't the results be just astounding?
