Bhutan travel

I snapped this truck at a police checkpoint on the first day of our field trip. We traveled from the capital, Thimphu, to Phuntsoling, a border town. All along the way, there are clever road signs. One of them is "Driving is risky after whiskey" and it appears that this driver modified it to fit his own situation.

The roads in Bhutan are never straight - just a series of curvy one and a half lane roads hugging the mountainside with a 200 meter drop on the outside edge. There are very few guardrails and in the short time I've been in Bhutan this trip, 3 cars have gone over the edge. Luckily, we just got back from a long trip safely.

Other road signs:
Be gentle on my curves.
Better late than never.
It's better to be Mr. Late than late Mr.
