Indian style

Why am I posting an Indian picture when I'm in Bhutan?

To get from one end of Bhutan to the other takes two full days of driving. The whole country is only about 200 km across, but all the curves and mountains and valleys add many kilometers to the trip. And since the average speed is about 30 km/hr, it takes forever to travel.

The southern border of Bhutan is marked by the end of the mountains and the start of the plains. Driving to the east on a straight Indian highway cut a whole day or more off the trip and was much more comfortable. We traveled comfortably through the Indian state of Assam with one hitch - it's a hotbed of armed insurgent movements. The last few hours are the worst for security so the Indian army arranges a protected convoy for travelers to and from Bhutan. We arrived at the starting point for the convoy a few hours early and while we were hanging around, I snapped a few pics. This barber shop is typical for India - since it's in a storefront with a roll up shutter, the natural light was perfect.
