Pokin' holes in my birch!

I spied this woodpecker late this afternoon in the front yard on our birch trees. Yelled "WOODPECKER!" to the kids and ran to get my camera. I've only seen one last year on our humungous eucalyptus tree in the backyard. Unless he's picking off the bugs, this birch doesn't need any help from him. It looks like it's dying....but now I noticed it has gotten some green recently.

I took the kids to the pool again today. What a glorious day! No wind! 80 degrees! Clear blue skies!

Tomorrow, we head for the beach to see the tidepools....I'll have to charge my camera battery!
