Beating Berlusconi
A long day of culture today; exploring picturesque Chester with its ancient buildings and newer graffiti and "official pigeon feeding area", a dovecot under a huge tree completely covered in the critters (and one white dove) looking very Hitchcock-themed and waiting to poo-bomb anyone who walked beneath. Lovely lunch, shopping and back to Liverpool to watch "Beating Berlusconi" at the Unity theatre, a play so remarkable that it had us crying with laughter - I can't do it justice but a better description is to be found here.
This song appeared in a few places and was happily taken up by the audience. The trumpet motif was relevant to the story, being a football anthem rather than part of a song about illicit love as written by June Carter for the then-married Johnny Cash. She was the love of his life and they later married. Nothing to do with the play of course.
Love is a burning thing
and it makes a fiery ring
bound by wild desire
I fell in to a ring of fire...
I fell in to a burning ring of fire
I went down, down, down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns, burns, burns
the ring of fire
the ring of fire.
The taste of love is sweet
when hearts like ours meet
I fell for you like a child
oh, but the fire went wild..
I fell in to a burning ring of fire.....[etc]
