The Big Man
Maggie and I always have quite an easy day after traveling all hours the day before and that was the plan for today. Bit of a lie in, grab some brunch, get our bearings, see some famous landmarks, find a soya latte and have a wee bit of a wander around. Its a good plan and works well when we are feeling all tired and spongy.
We hadn't taken into account just how far apart some of these landmarks are however, just because you can see the George Washington Monument from Capitol Hill doesn't mean thats its just there. Its a fair distance and then its the same again to the WWII Memorial and again to go see Abe. In fact its 2 miles between Capitol Hill and the Lincoln Memorial and we did there and back twice yesterday.
Not such an easy day afterall!
We tried to see The White House earlier too but the road was cordoned off at that time. Most frustrating, Obama isn't even here just now to greet us! I mean its not like he's got anything better to do, is it?!
They are however having a festival in my honour so I can't complain - The National Cherry Blossom Festival is on until sunday and we leave the next day. Well timed folks ;o)
Then went searching for a Starbucks - which turns out to be remarkably easy once you've left The Mall, fairly tripping over them! Also found a place called Red VelVet Cupcakery..... OMG.....
Went to see the Lincoln Memorial tonight, thinking it would be less crowded after dark. It wasn't! It's SO busy!! Turns out this is actually the busiest tourist time of year in Washington, ooops!
