Unwanted and Unloved

Apparatus without a home.

These are part of a collection of pieces of scientific equipment that (may) have outlived their usefulness. Many of the pieces are beautifully constructed in that old-fashioned instrument way; most still work. But space is at a premium, and according to "The Administration" these have to go to make room for newer things that, IMHO, are less handsome, less well made, and less interesting.

One day, perhaps not long in the future, someone is going to want some piece or other that is here, or could be adapted from something that is. Then they'll be sorry that they didn't find space somewhere for storage, as always used to be the case, with old things being treasured.

At least I hope that I, perhaps with the help of some friends, will manage to save a few objects from becoming landfill. Different views, and some close-ups, can be found at

Surplus!

By the way, you might think that museums would be interested, but similar behaviour in other departments and universities means that there is something of a glut.
