A most unusual sight

There is something most unusual about this picture, taken on a hill near my local shops. Thanks to the volcanic ash from the volcano eruption in Iceland, the UK airspace today was pretty much shut down. And that's what is most unusual about this sight: there are no contrails from aircraft in it.
