Day 2 - Boots
Today was day 2 of our tramp on the Abel Tasman track. The Mission: Awaroa Hut to Bark Bay - 11.5km
After a slightly noisy night (snoring) we were up early, or at least I was, to catch the sunrise. Fantastic. Then breakfast, packing and off, We we're gone by 9, before the girl guides.
Nice walk around the Awaroa Estuary (at full tide) then up and over the hill to Tonga Bay for an early lunch at 11.45. A fabulous beach. Then, with rain approaching we hustled the kids off at 12.30, south to Bark Bay. Around 2pm we crossed the estuary, which required removal of trousers (as the tidal pool was quite deep) and we settled into the hut. So peaceful it was, until the guides arrived! Again the hut was on an estuary, but just 5 minutes from the most beautiful beach. 3 rooms, 2 of 14 and 1 of 6 . Unfortunately (and I don't like saying this) the two Germans in the 6 berth room said it was "full", trying to keep others out. Unfortunately the hut was full however and their selfish ways didn't work.
BTW, the rain did come, 30 minutes after we arrived, but then it poured for 3 hours at night, ominous for the next day ...
For us however that meant sleeping with the guide leaders, one of the mums who was without doubt the worst snorer EVER. I even have a recording of it ;-)
Despite that, it was a fantastic hut, we met some great people and shared our stove with them (they had forgotten theirs), played cards, but sadly, sleep wasn't the best ...
Message to me. Take ear plugs next time.
