Day 1 - Awaroa
Today was day 1 of our tramp on the Abel Tasman track. The Mission: Totaranui to Awaroa - 5.5km
After a leisurely morning, we caught a 10.30 water taxi north to Totaranui arriving around 12.30. Have to say the driver was brilliant, less busy this time of year so he took more time to tell us about the sights. Fantastic.
After lunch on the beach we headed off, departing at 1.20pm. At 3.00pm we arrived at Awaroa hut, pretty much on the 1.5hrs suggested walking time. A great little hut, situated on the estuary, around 20 minutes walk to the beach. As luck would (or wouldn't) have it we found ourselves "in sync" with a group of 20 girl guides, We would share a hut with them for the next 3 nights. They were very "enthusiastic" but we coped ...
Anyway, we arrived and Hannah, Adam and I headed for the beach. A great walk, and lovely swimming. Awaroa is a special place for sure.
Back to the Hut, dinner, and then bed. Lots of noise and snoring tho ...
Lots of choices for photos too! This one was chosen as it captured the day - walking.
