Killing time . . .
Day three of our delayed departure as we await the fate of our air travel pending continued eruptions of the Icelandic volcano. The day dawned cool, clear and calm; so, we quickly packed a picnic lunch and headed west to the northeast corner of New Mexico.
This view looking north from the crest of a butte shows Black Mesa in the background which is the highest point in Oklahoma at nearly 5000 ft just a few miles to the east.
Bare trees along the river bed define the beginning of the Cimarron River. Just to the south over my shoulder a few miles is the famous Sante Fe trail.
With the exception of range cattle and fences and a lonely dirt road, this country has not changed in a millennium.
